The
Çeşme
Castle
was
constructed
in 1508,
by the
Ottoman
Sultan
Beyazıt
II. In
its
present
form,
the
Çeşme
Castle
reflects
all the
characteristics
of the
Ottoman
architecture.
The
statue
of the
Grand
Admiral
Cezayirli
Hasan
Paşa
stands
eight in
front of
the
Castle.
The
southern
gate of
the
Castle
is also
very
impressive,
showing
the
grandeur
and
magnificence
of the
Ottoman
architecture.
The
three
sides of
the
castle,
which
were
erected
by the
Ottoman
Architect
Ahmetoglu
Mehmet
based an
a
rectangular
pattern,
is
surrounded
by dykes.
The
western
wall of
the
Castle,
which
was
originally
right an
the
water
front,
is now
slightly
away
from the
sea, due
to the
landfill
that
took
place in
the
later
years.
In
addition
to the
ditches,
the
exterior
facade
of the
Castle
is also
protected
two
layers
of walls.
Access
to the
interior
castle
is
through
the
courtyard
which as
two
gates.
The
interior
castle
has been
constructed
in the
form of
two
separate
courtyards
that are
connected
to each
other
through
a door.
The
castle
has 6
towers,
four of
which
are
cylin
drical
and two
rectangular
in shape.

The
Castle,
which
consists
of 50
sections,
has
served
as a
base to
the
Ottoman
Navy for
many
years.

town.
The
Çeşme
Castle
also
houses
the
Çeşme
Archaeological
Museum,
where
the
archaeological
works
unearthed
in the
excavations
held in
the
Erythrai,
Çeşme
town
center,
Alaçati
and
Kalemburnu
are
displayed.
The
works in
the
museum
include
320
archaeological
works,
126
ethnographic
works,
and 31
coins,
adding
up to a
total of
477
works of
archeological
and
historical
value.
Visiting
hours of
the
museum
is
between
8:30-12:00/13:00
- 17:00
every
day
except
Mondays.
